Can a dog take human meds such as fish oils, and joint medication?
Have a 10, and 14 year old dogs. One has congestive heart failure, and is taking meds. One has some arthritis, and tends to have hip pain, mainly when it rains.
Talk to your vet about dosages to be sure. I know some people give their dogs glucosamine, which is the same thing people take for joint problems. But I’m not sure what the dosage is.
Do NOT give your dog any medicine without checking with the vet, some over the counter medications can kill them.

The Arthritis Handbook
$12.98 According to conventional wisdom, arthritis pain is an inevitable part of aging. Not so, says Dr. Grant Cooper in this practical, accessible guide. For those who do develop osteoarthritic conditions, this book offers a blend of commonsense advice, dietary info, targeted exercise, and tips on useful supplements. According to the author, sufferers can often entirely avoid the use of medication, injection therapy, and surgery — approaches that, when necessary, can be used as an opportunity to return to exercise and nutrition to slow the disease’s progress. The book features easy, illustrated exercises, including aerobics and strength training, that can be done at home, at a gym, or under a trainer’s or physical therapist’s supervision. Nutritional and supplement strategies — including glucosamine and fish oil — are presented in detail, along with suggestions for ways to keep on track. Dr. Cooper not only explores each topic in depth but explains how it fits into an overall holistic treatment program. |

Fish Oil
$12.98 Did you know that the root cause of serious chronic diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, arthritis, and asthma has been identified as chronic inflammation? Although numerous studies have confirmed these findings, few physcians are aware of or consider the fact that the battle against inflammation is at the forefront of the fight for health and well-being of the global population. Authors Joseph Maroon and Jeffrey Bost have set out to reverse that trend with "Fish Oil: The Natural Anti-Inflammatory." Pharmaceujtical companies have spent billions of dollars in an attempt to understand the bio-chemistry of inflammation. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical anit-inflammatories such as Celebrex, Vioxx, and Bextra have been shown to greatly increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and uncontrollable gastric hemorrhage, with potentially fatal consequences. Is there a safer alternative? Absolutiely! The answer lies in the power of the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil, undeniably the most under-recognized and also the most petent natural anti-inflammatory available. With compelling arguments and the results of thousands of clinical studies to support them. the uathors explain in plain and simple terms; How the inflammation process works and how it can evolve into a chroninc condition that is the cause of many diseases; How fatty acids work in the body; Why supplementtion with omega-3 fatty acids can restore the body's balance and mitigate the effects of inflmmatory factors; and why fish oil is the best source of omega-3 fatty acids, and how to identify good-quality fish oil supplements. |

Mega Twin EPA Fish Oil 60 softgels: K
$25.15 Fish oil contains EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), both omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids keep blood triglycerides, associated with increased risk of heart disease, in check, and may inhibit the progression of atherosclerosis. EPA and DHA keep blood from clotting too quickly, and thus and may help protect against chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. EPA and DHA also have anti-inflammatory activity, and so are commonly used to help with inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis sufferers have been shown to have decreased levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which can be replenished with fish oil. |

Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000 mg 100 softgels: K
$8.9 Omega 3 EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids) are essential for healthy arteries, blood pressure already in normal range, and triglyceride levels. The essential fatty acids in fish oil are believed to be the reasons why Greenland Inuit (whose diet is mainly fish) have a low incidence of cardiovascular or circulation problems. Fish oil contains EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), both omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids keep blood triglycerides, associated with increased risk of heart disease, in check, and may inhibit the progression of atherosclerosis.
