I am taking fish oil pills, 1000mg daily. 2 hours later I get horrible heartburn, is this the cause?
I am also taking Bayer Heart Advantage pills with cholesterol lowering phytosterols. What ever those are. but they are supposed to help lower your cholesterol. My triglycerides are high. But i take them with supper like it says and 2 hours later I get the worst heartburn in the world and end up having to take zantac because it feels like the acid is coming up in to my throat and my chest is on fire. Does anyone else that takes fish oil pills have this problem?
Here is a long answer to a short but very important question. Here is what I found works for me and what I did.
The short answer is that it is probably your fish oil capsule or the source of your fish oil. Not all fish oil is made the same. I use a no repeat fish oil.
The long answer – please read all for the complete answer.
Remove Fish Oil Repeat Problems
People often complain about fish oil repeat in reviews and online forums. People have various suggestions about how to get rid of that fishy burp back. Suggestions include storing them in the freezer, taking the capsules before meals and taking it along with a calcium supplement. But, here you will learn about what causes fish oil repeat and how you can avoid it entirely.
There are hundreds of different brands on the market. It seems like more companies form every day. It’s not surprising when you realize that this is the best selling nutritional supplement on the market. Everybody wants a piece of the pie.
Some companies guarantee that their supplements will not cause fishy burp back. How can they guarantee such a thing? The cause of fish oil repeat is highly oxidized oil.
Oxidation or spoilage begins as soon as the catch is landed. If the catch is handled properly, very little oxidation occurs. If it is allowed to lie on the dock in the sun for hours at a time, lots of oxidation will occur and the supplement will cause fishy burp back.
The amount of oxidation allowed by government agencies is very high. For example, the standards set by the US Food and Drug Administration are so high that they are basically irrelevant. The same is true of their standards for contaminants. Many people buy supplements thinking that they are evaluated by the FDA, but that’s simply not true. The FDA’s major concern is that companies do not make claims concerning the treatment of a disease.
In order to prevent fishy burp back, manufacturers should have the level of oxidation tested before the oils are encapsulated. Once they are encapsulated, no further oxidation will occur, as long as a small amount of vitamin E is included. If the total level of oxidation is below 17 MEQ/KG, then there will be no fish oil repeat. If it is above that level, then the batch should be discarded, but most manufacturers would not consider such a thing. It would be like throwing away money.
Some manufactures add lemon or other artificial flavorings to reduce burping, but what most people notice is that they still have the burps. It just tastes more like lemons than fish. An added flavoring or fragrance can only mask the taste and smell of oxidized or rancid oils.
The biggest risk of taking rancid oils is due to the free radicals that they contain. Free radicals are damaging to the cells of the body. They contribute to aging and age-related diseases. Our goal should be to increase our antioxidant status, in order to fight free radical damage and reduce our risks of those diseases.
In other words, fishy burp back is not life-threatening, but free radicals can be. If you’re smart, you will only buy from a manufacture that guarantees to provide a burp-free product. They should also reveal the amount of oxidation present, as determined by an independent laboratory. You don’t have to settle for fish oil repeat. It isn’t really caused by the supplement. And now, see this website for more information on a fish oil that is guaranteed to have NO fishy burp back, no fish oil repeat. http://www.XtendFishOil.com
They can tell you much more than I can but the above is what I found interesting and their fish oil works for me. Hope this helps.

Fish Oil
$9.99 With compelling arguments and the results of thousands of clinical studies to support them, the authors explain in plain and simple terms. How the inflammation process works and how it can evolve into a chronic condition that is the cause of many diseases. Why the risks of pharmaceutical anti-inflammatories outweigh their benefits. How fatty acids work in the body to balance inflammatory and anti-inflammatory forces, and how this balance can be disrupted by factors now common in Western society, such as unbalanced diet, lack of exercise, and environmental toxins. Why supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids can restore the body's balance and mitigate the effects of inflammatory factors. Why fish oil is the best source of omega-3 fatty acids, and how to identify good-quality fish oil supplements. |

Fish Oil
$12.98 Did you know that the root cause of serious chronic diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, arthritis, and asthma has been identified as chronic inflammation? Although numerous studies have confirmed these findings, few physcians are aware of or consider the fact that the battle against inflammation is at the forefront of the fight for health and well-being of the global population. Authors Joseph Maroon and Jeffrey Bost have set out to reverse that trend with "Fish Oil: The Natural Anti-Inflammatory." Pharmaceujtical companies have spent billions of dollars in an attempt to understand the bio-chemistry of inflammation. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical anit-inflammatories such as Celebrex, Vioxx, and Bextra have been shown to greatly increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and uncontrollable gastric hemorrhage, with potentially fatal consequences. Is there a safer alternative? Absolutiely! The answer lies in the power of the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil, undeniably the most under-recognized and also the most petent natural anti-inflammatory available. With compelling arguments and the results of thousands of clinical studies to support them. the uathors explain in plain and simple terms; How the inflammation process works and how it can evolve into a chroninc condition that is the cause of many diseases; How fatty acids work in the body; Why supplementtion with omega-3 fatty acids can restore the body's balance and mitigate the effects of inflmmatory factors; and why fish oil is the best source of omega-3 fatty acids, and how to identify good-quality fish oil supplements. |

Pills That Work, Pills That Don't
$3.48 As a new century approaches, better living through pharmacology has become a way of life. Approximately two thirds of all physician visits result in a drug prescription. In 1996 alone, physicians wrote 2.8 billion prescriptions--about eight prescriptions for every person in this country. New superdrugs and forms of treatment generate front-page coverage and have become household names, but how much do we really know about these new drugs, their effectiveness, their life-prolonging properties, and their potentially deadly interactions and side effects? How can we protect ourselves and our families, enhance our quality of life, and participate in the heal-or-harm choices that determine whether our prescribed medications will help or hinder us, whether they will add years to our life or cut it short? With these issues in clear focus, Pills That Work, Pills That Don't is the ultimate family guide to personal pharmacology and medication use. Part medical exposé, part pharmacy home companion, this revolutionary book and information resource is the first authoritative road map to better health through better medications. First, it takes you behind the closed doors of the health care establishment and penetrates the drug-secrecy barrier, behind which critical decisions are made about your access to medications. Then, using a one-of-a-kind pill ranking system, this book presents an empowering action plan that will help you and your family get the best possible drugs in order to improve your health.A nationally acclaimed author-developer of drug selection systems, Dr. Gideon Bosker reveals how your health is being compromised by poor drug practices that are tailspinning out of control. Step by step, he gives you the best and most convenient cures for your condition and makes specific recommendations that you, as an average health care consumer, can apply to your own medical problems and health goals, day in and day out. The 12-Week Action Plan--a unique, consumer-friendly program for drug reduction, elimination, and substitution--helps you and your physician, together, produce a sensible drug regimen that will do more with less. As the authoritative guide to selecting the best and safest medications for yourself and your family, this book is nothing less than a prescription for a longer, safer, and more satisfying life. The first "diet book for pills," Pills That Work, Pills That Don't: ¸ convincingly documents the treacherous epidemic of inappropriate drug prescribing in America ¸ presents a comprehensive Consumer Reports-like, pill-by-pill rating system of more than 500 brand-name and generic products, which identifies optimal medications and those you should avoid ¸ reveals the inadequate drug-treatment education that physicians receive ¸ enables you to recognize suboptimal medication use and lodge complaints and concerns with appropriate individuals in your health care plan ¸ offers a unique resource ... |

Fifty Pills - Widescreen
$6.99 This collegiate farce directed by Theo Avgerinos had its world premiere at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. After a party thrown by his roommate, Coleman (John Hensley), violates their dorm-room probation, college freshman (at a thinly veiled New York University) Darren (Lou Taylor Pucci) loses his scholarship money and scrambles to raise the funds by selling 50 ecstasy pills given to him as an apology by Coleman over the course of a hectic day. While loading the pills off on fellow college students, friends, family, and Coleman's customers -- including a dominatrix named Petunia (Monica Keena) and an insanely off-kilter stock trader (Eddie Kaye Thomas) -- Darren must also finish a paper on Dante's Inferno, deal with his parents (Jane Lynch and John Kapelos) in New Jersey, who think he's gay, elude the mysterious Soul Man (Ron Yuan), and try to convince his crush, Grace (Kristen Bell), that he's not a sleazy drug dealer. Darren's crazy day comes to a head when some stupid but vengeful thugs led by Eduardo (Michael Pena) track down both Coleman and Darren at their dorm while the stock trader shows up looking for more pills. ~ Michael Buening, All Movie Guide |
